3D artist recreates the city of Markarth from Skyrim using Unreal Engine 5

Leo Torres published a video in which he presented a recreation of the city of Markarth from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim on the Unreal Engine 5. The artist redesigned this location to make it look more realistic and consistent with the game’s lore.

This remake is part of an ongoing project to render Tamriel’s cities on a more realistic and iconic scale. Markarth specifically now has 16 times more detail than the original Skyrim.

The video was rendered using Unreal Engine 5.3.2 using a GeForce RTX 3090 graphics card. Leo Torres used a mixture of third-party models and custom assets modeled in Blender. Additionally, he applied Nanite to all models and vegetation. Lumen hardware was also used for global illumination and reflections.

The result is truly impressive. This video gives an idea of what a modern remake of Skyrim could look like on Unreal Engine 5. I wonder if The Elder Scrolls 6 can come close to such visuals – we’ll find out in a few years.

Markarth is not the first location that Torres has recreated in Unreal Engine 5. The artist has also remade Whiterun, Solitude, Blackreach, and Winterhold.
