Activision Blizzard plans to lay off 136 employees from its office in Ireland

Microsoft is reportedly preparing to cut more than a hundred jobs at Activision Blizzard’s Cork office in Ireland.

According to the Irish Examiner , the Foreign Secretary said 136 of around 200 jobs in Blackpool, Cork, were facing cuts, describing the situation as very serious. MP Mick Barry said:

Companies should not be allowed to come into our country, announce life-altering layoffs, and simply refuse to talk to those employees’ elected union representatives.

At the time of writing, it is reported that the cuts will only affect the Cork office, with the remaining 200 jobs in Dublin supposedly unaffected. There has been no official comment from Activision Blizzard yet.

If confirmed, the layoffs would add to the decision to fire 1,900 people at Activision Blizzard, ZeniMax and Xbox in January.

The cuts follow Microsoft’s $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard last year and its $7.5 billion purchase of ZeniMax in 2021.
