Amazon bought iRobot , the company that makes the famous and acclaimed Roomba home robots. The company announced its intention to complete the acquisition as soon as possible. The transaction provides a shareholder compensation set at $ 61 per share, with a total cost of $ 1.7 billion.

The company has specified that there are no major changes in the management of iRobot. The current CEO, Colin Angle , will remain in his place. “IRobot has successfully demonstrated over the years that it knows how to reinvent the way people clean their homes, thanks to practical and intelligent solutions,” reads the statement from Amazon. “Customers love iRobot products, we look forward to working with them to create new devices designed to make people’s lives easier and more fulfilling.”

It goes without saying that this agreement can open the door to a whole series of interesting integrations between the products and ecosystems of the two companies. We wouldn’t be surprised if iRobot products, including Roomba ‘s , would one day be able to actively communicate with Alexa, Alexa’s voice assistant.

It wouldn’t even surprise us if Amazon decided to use iRobot’s know-how to enhance its upcoming products. One for all? The Astro line of robots .
