Amazon is going to create a serial film adaptation of the Tomb Raider game series: details

The number of game adaptations continues to grow. The Last of Us is already breaking the charts, with more Borderlands and Gran Turismo expected later this year. And recently it became known that a series based on Tomb Raider from Amazon can be added to the list.

The preparation of the adaptation was told by The Hollywood Reporter, which is known for its close ties in the film industry. According to sources of the portal, Phoebe Waller-Bridge will become a screenwriter and producer of the upcoming show. She is known for her roles in the movie “Han Solo. Star Wars: Stories” and the TV series “Fleabag”, “His Dark Materials”, and “Run”. The film adaptation of Tomb Raider will be the latest project that the actress and writer will work on in partnership with Amazon.

The adaptation was also executive produced by Ryan Andolina and Amanda Greenblatt. Previously, the former served as head of comedy and drama, and the latter as head of general deals at Amazon. They started their own production company and formed a partnership with their former employer. The fourth producer was Dmitri M. Johnson through his firm dj2.

Film adaptations of Tomb Raider

  • The franchise has been adapted into films twice before. The first was the dilogy “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” with Angelina Jolie in the title role. These films were released in the early 2000s.
  • The franchise hit the big screens again in 2018. Then came the picture “Tomb Raider: Lara Croft” with Alicia Vikander as the central performer. A sequel was also planned, but it was constantly postponed.
  • A release date for the new Amazon series has yet to be announced.
