Android Studio data shared by 9to5Google gives a peek into how quickly OEMs delivered Android 13 to their devices. According to Google’s official statistics, the latest OS, Android 13, seems to be running on only 5.2% of devices five months after its launch. Meanwhile, Android 12 and 12L are running on 18.9% of devices, up significantly from August’s figure of 13.5%.

Android 8.0 Oreo is below 10%, and earlier versions show similar declines. Android Jelly Bean, which previously accounted for 0.3%, was dropped from the list, while KitKat dropped from 0.9% to 0.7%.

The most popular version is Android 11, which seems to be installed in about 24.4% of terminals. Android 10 is the runner-up, running on 19.5% of devices. Security backports for these OSs, including Android 10, will end in February 2023, so it is expected that the adoption of new OSs will progress rapidly after this.

The diffusion speed of Android 13 seems to be slower than the diffusion speed of Apple’s iOS, but when compared to past cases, there is a noticeable improvement. In particular, OEMs such as Google, Samsung, OnePlus, and Sony updated early after the release of Android 13, contributing to the spread of the latest OS.
