Millions of players could part ways with PlayStation if Microsoft makes Call of Duty its own exclusive

Specialists from the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) continue to publish documents related to the ongoing investigation into the deal between Microsoft and Activision Blizzard.

The agency said it had surveyed British players asking them how the availability of specific games, in particular Activision’s Call of Duty shooters, affects them when buying a console.

Most of the respondents noted that their choice directly depends on the availability of specific games on consoles. Moreover, about a quarter of those surveyed (24%) admitted that if new releases of Call of Duty stop coming to the PlayStation, then they will be ready to immediately switch to another gaming platform. In the context of the market, these are millions of people.

Microsoft itself claims that it does not plan to make Call of Duty it’s exclusive, as it does not make sense from a commercial point of view. However, regulators fear that one day it will take such a step, and then the PlayStation console business will be dealt a big blow.

The fate of Call of Duty on PlayStation consoles continues to be a major sticking point in history with the deal between Microsoft and Activision. The UK Competition and Markets Authority is negative and considers Sony’s arguments logical.
