In Normal, Odenkirk plays Ulysses, a temporary sheriff on the run from the demons of his past. He takes over control of the town after the death of the former sheriff. But when the town's bank is robbed by strangers, Ulysses uncovers a deep criminal conspiracy and realizes that everyone from the bartender to the priest is involved.

Odenkirk himself, in a conversation with the media, said that he had never seen such a story in an action movie, comparing it with the early films about Jason Bourne. He also added that Normal will have a level of mystery and tension comparable to M. Night Shyamalan's films.
