Developers from Naughty Dog and other studios admire the animations in Helldivers 2: “Give them a reward”

The character animations in Helldivers 2 delighted developers from Naughty Dog, Infinity Ward and other studios.

At first glance, Helldivers 2 is a third-person shooter. But there is also black humor in it, and it’s not just about outright satire. Randomly killing allies, being killed by drop pods, and flying after enemy attacks make combat surprisingly addictive.

It was the last moment that received enthusiastic responses from the developers. In the video below, KindaFunny founder Greg Miller is seen flying away from a giant bug attack. This prompted Naughty Dog lead designer Michael Barkle to note the quality of the game’s animations, especially the way the character flies through the landscape and lands smoothly.

The character model ideally faces obstacles without getting stuck in them. The transition from ragdoll animation to recovery also looks believable – he falls to an almost sitting position and from there rises to his feet in one fluid motion.

Other developers also praised the animations in Helldivers 2.

Cool transition from jump to ragdoll animation depending on height.

Very cool.

An update was released for Helldivers 2 on PC, but it was quickly rolled back due to performance issues. Fortunately, the patch went smoothly on PS5 and improved server capacity.
