Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will have almost 30 mini-games

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth contains nearly 30 mini-games, and one of them was developed by an internal team of “hardcore card game fans.”

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi hinted at a plethora of mini-games, some of which you’ll play throughout the campaign, while others will only be available during certain quests or parts of the map. One of the mini-games is called Queen’s Blood, a card game developed by a group within the development team, whose members were avid card fans.

There are many people on our development team who are very passionate about card games. We formed a group where we could discuss the rules and mechanics of Queen’s Blood. I think we managed to create something that fans of card games will really like.

Seasoned RPG players, especially Final Fantasy fans, are very familiar with the idea of a card game as additional content – think Triple Triad from Final Fantasy 8 and Final Fantasy 14, and Tetra Master from Final Fantasy 9. However, the Rebirth card game has a whole backstory related to with the general plot of the sequel.

In Rebirth, she introduces not just a card game to play, but an entire expanded storyline around Queen’s Blood. We can dive into the history of how this card game came to be, the background, and find out what role it plays in the world of Final Fantasy VII.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth releases exclusively on PS5 on February 29th. Its Metacritic rating is the highest in the series since Final Fantasy 9 in 2000 – 92/100.
