Former DC Films Boss Adapts Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin into an R-Rated Movie

Paramount Pictures has launched production of a live-action film about the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with an adult rating of R (17+). It will be an adaptation of the comic book “The Last Ronin” and will be produced by Walter Hamada, a former DC Films executive.

The script will be written by Tyler Burton Smith, who wrote the screenplay for The Boy Against the World and 2019’s Child’s Play.

The comic, set in a totalitarian future New York, tells how the Turtles and Splinter die at the hands of Shredder’s grandson and synthetic ninjas. One turtle manages to survive and vows revenge. One of the tricks of the comic was that for a long time it was not clear which of the Turtles survived, because the survivor had the weapons of all four.

In the summer, Paramount Network will release a serial spin-off of the cartoon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, which will act as a bridge to a full-fledged sequel.
