Google pays tens of billions of dollars a year to remain the default search engine.

Google Vice President Prabhakar Raghavan testified in court during antitrust proceedings between the corporation and the US Department of Justice. It was revealed that the company paid $26.3 billion in 2021 to remain the default search engine on various devices. Probably the lion’s share of these funds went into Apple’s pocket.

It also became known that in 2014 Google paid $7.1 billion for this status. However, then the corporation’s revenue from “search” amounted to $47 billion, and in 2021 it grew to $146.4 billion.

Google representatives objected to making the data public, arguing that it would harm their ability to negotiate future contracts. The judge did not agree with them.
