Hideo Kojima called Oscar Isaac in the Moon Knight series pathetic and unattractive – and that’s a compliment

The Marvel miniseries Moon Knight starring Oscar Isaac was released on Disney+ back in 2022, but Hideo Kojima is only now getting around to it. As a film aficionado, it’s no surprise that the series made it onto Kojima’s watch list, and now he’s shared his thoughts on X. While he wrote quite a lot, the main one was his admiration for Oscar Isaac’s performance, whom Kojima called “pathetic and unlikable” in the show , specifying that this is “good”.

Kojima writes that he decided to wait for the series to be released on Blu-ray before watching it in full. But Kojima still watched the first episode of Moon Knight on Disney+. This happened right after he signed up for the service to watch the documentary, which is now available on Disney+.

Overall, Kojima says he really enjoyed the series, which he was looking forward to watching because of his love for Isaac, who was cast as Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid film.

This is so original! The artistic direction, the world, the direction, the pacing! I’ve never seen anything like it among superhero films. And most importantly, the main character Stephen is lonely and weak. I could never imagine such a pathetic and unattractive Oscar Isaac. But it’s good. Isaac successfully copes with this complex role.

And the game director is right, as the actor skillfully embodies every facet of Steven, especially his “pathetic” side, which makes the transformation into a cruel vigilante so spectacular.
