Kate Winslet: Journalists made my life quite unpleasant after Titanic

In 1997, James Cameron’s Titanic was released in theaters. The film became an instant hit, and Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, who played in it, immediately received megastar status. However, not everyone liked it. According to the actress, fame caused her some inconvenience – mainly due to the close attention of journalists:

I always felt like I had to look a certain way or be a certain person, and because there was so much media interference at the time, my life was quite unpleasant. Journalists kept telling me: “After Titanic, you could have done anything, but you decided to star in these small films…” And I thought: “Yes, fuck, that’s exactly what I decided! Being famous is terrible.” !”

Of course, I was grateful to the director and the audience. I was in my twenties and was able to buy an apartment. But I didn’t want to be watched always and everywhere, even when I was just feeding the ducks.

Despite all these troubles, Kate is still glad that she played in Titanic:

Titanic continues to bring people a huge amount of joy. True, I still have to hide from people when I’m sailing on a ship.

Titanic’s budget in 1997 was $200 million, and grosses exceeded $1.8 billion. And to date, the film has brought in more than $2.26 billion.
