Looks like the Elden Ring brand is now solely owned by FromSoftware

Reddit users drew attention to records from the US Patent and Trademark Office, from which it turned out that the Japanese FromSoftware is now the sole owner of the Elden Ring trademark .

This change took effect on April 24, 2023, although the trademark information was only updated this week. Prior to this, the Elden Ring brand was jointly owned by FromSoftware and Bandai Namco, which published the action role-playing game.

The full transfer of rights to FromSoftware means that the Japanese studio Hidetaka Miyazaki will manage the Elden Ring brand and participate in the creative processes for third-party products.

At the same time, the network notes that the copyright still belongs to both FromSoftware and Bandai Namco.

FromSoftware also owns the Sekiro brand. The Dark Souls franchise remains with Bandai Namco, while Demon’s Souls and Bloodborne are owned by Sony.

On August 31, 2022 , it became known that Tencent and Sony Interactive Entertainment own 30% of FromSoftware shares. Sony has a 14.09% stake in the developers of Dark Souls and Elden Ring, while Tencent has a 16.25% stake. FromSoftware’s largest shareholder continues to be Kadokawa Corporation, which holds 69.66% of shares.

This kind of investment will allow FromSoftware to publish its own games in the future – without the help of Bandai Namco or anyone else.
