Media: The European Union is going to fine Apple 500 million euros due to Spotify’s complaint

The Financial Times reported that the European Union is preparing to fine Apple 500 million euros. Journalists, citing five unnamed sources at once, claim that the European Commission will announce its decision at the beginning of next month.

The fine will be imposed as part of the EU investigation into Spotify’s complaint. In 2019, the service accused Apple of deliberately impeding the promotion of the application and even blocking its updates in order to remove a competitor to its own Apple Music service.

Later, other accusers, including Epic Games, joined the case. And the European Union conducted a large-scale investigation, during which special attention was paid to the 30% commission that Apple charges for applications in the App Store.

According to the Financial Times, the European Union will say that Apple “violated EU antitrust laws” and created “unfair trading conditions” for its competitors.
