Minecraft bans NFTs: "never in our game, they discriminate against poor players"

Mojang Studios has distanced itself from NFTs. Minecraft will not allow any integration with NFTs and, more generally, blockchain technology.

After the success of some apocryphal projects based on its intellectual property, Mojang Studios has distanced itself from NFTs . The development house behind the blockbuster video game Minecraft will never promote initiatives related to crypto-collectibles.

Mojang Studios, which has been part of Microsot for years, justified this decision with rather harsh words and blame towards the cryptocurrency industry. The company has not limited itself to publishing a neutral note, but has chosen to define NFTs as “non-inclusive for our entire community”, arguing that these kinds of collectibles create a “gap between rich players and poor players”.

The company behind Minecraft has also condemned the speculative nature of NFTs, guilty of “encouraging profit” at the expense of fun. Which is at least a curious position, considering that it is not a non-profit but a company that sells digital goods and services to its users to express it.

The fact is, Mojang Studios also added that Minecraft will ban any form of integration with blockchain technologies . This results in the impossibility of importing game worlds, skins, personal items and mods sold or otherwise linked to blockchain technology. This is because, continues Mojang Studios, “NFTs (…) can create a model of resource scarcity and exclusivity that is at odds with our guidelines and Minecraft values”.
