The developers of the role-playing game Hogwarts Legacy, following the musical overture, released a new video diary in which they talked about the creation of the soundtrack.
As you know, the music for the film adaptations of the Harry Potter books was written by John Williams – a five-time Oscar winner, who worked on such films as Star WarsJaws, and Schindler’s List during his career. Composers Chuck Myers and Jay Scott Rakosi had the difficult task to create in their way a unique musical landscape for the upcoming action role-playing game and not lose face in front of the Hollywood legend, who became a pioneer in the universe of books about the Boy Who Lived.
According to Myers, the work on the Hogwarts Legacy soundtrack is the high point of his career development, and the process of writing compositions has allowed him to work with incredibly talented musicians and performers.
The most difficult part turned out to be the creation of a unique dynamic system that would organically rebuild depending on what the player is doing. In Hogwarts Legacy, there is no background “ambient”, and all compositions have a clear melody that cannot be abruptly interrupted.
This is where production coordinator Nathan Ayubi stepped in to help Myers and Rakosi interact with the team of sound engineers who were able to create segmentable music. Thus, at almost any moment in time, compositions can be rebuilt from one to another, depending on what is happening on the screen.
Hogwarts Legacy is scheduled to release on February 10, 2023, for PC and both generations of Xbox and PlayStation consoles. The game will be released later on the Nintendo Switch.
