Sony has confirmed that digital collectibles, up for grabs with the PlayStation Stars loyalty program, will not be NFTs.
Today Sony announced PlayStation Stars , its new loyalty program designed to reward PS5 and PS4 players with rewards and bonuses of various kinds. These also include digital collectibles , or digital representations of the most beloved characters in the PlayStation world. The nature of these rewards could immediately make us think of a sort of NFT produced by Sony, however the company has been keen to clarify that this is absolutely not the case.
To reiterate this, immediately after the announcement, was Grace Chen , vice president of the network advertising, loyalty and licensed merchandise sector, to the microphones of the Washington Post.
I am definitely not NFT. Definitely not – said Chen – You can’t trade or sell them. They are not based on any blockchain technology and definitely not NFT.
PlayStation Stars, Sony’s loyalty program will debut in 2022 and will be free at launch. Players will be able to earn various rewards by completing a variety of campaigns and activities. With the “Monthly Check-in” campaign, just play any title to receive a prize. Other campaigns, on the other hand, require you to win tournaments, earn specific trophies, or even become the first player to earn a platinum trophy in your local time zone.
