Police arrest four people for stealing $300,000 worth of Lego sets

Residents of Los Angeles can rest easy knowing that the criminal gang that was stealing from the city’s retail stores to supply the Lego black market is no longer a threat. This week, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) announced the arrest of four people accused of stealing approximately $300,000 worth of Lego sets.

The four allegedly robbed Target, Home Depot and Lowe’s stores, then sold the stolen Lego to black market dealers, who then sold the bricks to supposedly legitimate companies, flea markets or online. They face charges related to organized retail theft, grand theft and conspiracy to commit a crime, police said.

The CHP released photos of the confiscated kits. The stolen sets included a Millennium Falcon for $85, a 6,167-piece Lord of the Rings Rivendell set for $500, a Castle of the Lion Knights for $400 and a 1,458-piece Porsche 911 for $170.

Like any other collectible, Lego sets are a popular target for thieves. In 2021, French police announced an investigation into an international criminal gang involved in Lego thefts. That same year, authorities in Seattle arrested a store owner accused of selling stolen Lego sets.
