Pornhub bans access to its site in Texas due to new law

Texas residents will now have a slightly harder time finding porn online. Popular adult site Pornhub is unavailable in the state due to a lawsuit from the Texas Attorney General.

On Thursday, users in Texas trying to access Pornhub and related sites saw this message:

As you may know, your elected officials in Texas require us to verify your age before granting access to our site. Unfortunately, Texas’ age verification law is ineffective, flawed, and dangerous. Until a real solution is offered, we have made the difficult decision to completely disable access to our site in Texas.

In addition to Pornhub, other sites showing a similar message are Redtube, Brazzers and YouPorn.

Earlier in February, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued Pornhub’s parent company Aylo for failing to comply with the state’s age verification law. The legislation came into effect last September and requires adult sites like Pornhub to obtain digital identification from users to prove they are of age. Last week, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit ruled in favor of Texas, ruling that the state law did not violate the First Amendment.

Aylo officials say they are not yet done with the legal battle to ensure every American adult has the right to access pornography.

The states of Montana and North Carolina lost access to Pornhub and its analogues at the beginning of the year. Arkansas, Mississippi, Utah, Louisiana and Virginia have also either already lost access or will lose it soon due to their own age verification laws. Indiana’s governor signed such legislation Wednesday.
