On the 12th, Riot Games signed a sponsorship agreement with the Cultural Heritage Administration at the Korea Office Auditorium located in Samseong-dong and donated an additional 800 million won. As a result, Riot Games’ cumulative donations to the Cultural Heritage Administration and others for the protection and support of Korean cultural heritage exceeded 7.6 billion won in total.

Through this agreement ceremony, Riot Games and the Cultural Heritage Administration settled on the achievements of giving back to society this year and unveiled plans for next year. A representative achievement of this year is the restoration of the Joseon royal relics, which was revealed in July. Borok is the 6th case of the return of overseas cultural assets through Riot Games sponsorship. In addition, the Cultural Heritage Administration conducted 36 youth history education this year with the support of the Riot Games, and the preservation process of 15 pieces of Nobu (鹵簿) relics of the Joseon Dynasty is being finalized.

The additional 800 million won donated this time will be used to support the 7th return of overseas cultural assets, expand history classes for gamers, and support reproduction exhibitions of relics from the Joseon Dynasty. First of all, it was announced that cultural heritage experience history education, which had been suspended due to Corona 19, would be reorganized and resumed next year. Provide educational opportunities to as many users as possible during periods other than hot and cold seasons.

In addition, it supports the production and exhibition of replicas of 6 pieces of royal relics and cultural assets, such as the Chaekado folding screen and the Jongmyo pro-regulation folding screen owned by the National Palace Museum of Korea. Replica production means replicating and making artifacts using scientific and professional technology to extend the life span of cultural heritage and preserve its value. It is a work that could not be exhibited in front of the public for a long time because it could not be done.

Gihyang Koo, general manager of Riot Games’ social contribution project, said, “I am so happy to think about the next 10 years beyond the 10 years we have run well together with our players and partners.” We will closely follow the steps to find value and add meaning.”

Riot Games has been carrying out activities to protect and support Korean cultural heritage since 2012 with the core value of ‘game is culture’. It was the only private company to steadily support the return of overseas cultural assets, such as the Joseon Buddhist painting Seokga Triad, Crown Princess Hyomyeong’s Chaekbong bamboo book, the Chinese palace seal, the white porcelain Donggungmyeong square, the bookshelf of Cheokam’s books, and the collection of Joseon royal family relics.

In addition, Seoul Munmyo and Sungkyunkwan Cultural Heritage information boards were improved, 3D digital original records were supported, Lee Sang’s house was repaired, Joseon royal tombs and palace management equipment were provided, cultural heritage experience training was supported, and intangible cultural assets were supported. In addition, it has continued to support the special exhibition celebrating the 70th anniversary of liberation, Changgyeonggung palace culture utilization content exhibition, World Heritage video production, and publicity support. On October 21, 2020, at Hanbok Day, an online exhibition, Our Beautiful Hanbok, was held with four national intangible cultural assets and a Korean painting artist.
