Schreier: Until Dawn and The Dark Pictures developers will cut 90 employees

Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier has learned that Supermassive Games, the developer of Until Dawn and The Dark Pictures, is going to make massive cuts. According to the journalist, about 90 employees will be fired, that is, about 30% of the total staff.

Since July 2022, Supermassive Games has lost its independence and became one of the internal studios of Nordisk Games – this is the gaming division of the Danish company Nordisk Film.

Soon Supermassive Games itself confirmed the cuts, announcing the reorganization of the studio. The company did not specify the number of cuts.

According to Bloomberg, since the beginning of 2024, more than 6,000 thousand people have lost their jobs in the gaming industry. Companies are shrinking amid a slowdown in global economic growth and a large number of releases vying for the player’s attention and wallet.

Supermassive Games is currently working on Little Nightmares III, The Casting of Frank Stone and The Dark Pictures Anthology: Directive 8020. The British studio also worked with PlayStation and 2K Games at one time.
