The creation of this steampunk computer required the participation of 34 people and a lot of experiments.

The amazing craftsmanship that went into Steamtronic’s custom steampunk PC required an incredible amount of painstaking work, months of testing and the hard work of 34 people. This unique miniature build was created by the Russian workshop Yolenzo for a client who dreamed of a computer in the style of 19th century steam engines combined with modern digital technology.

According to art director Vyacheslav Ilyinsky, the team initially created sketches and mock-ups from cardboard to represent the dimensions, after which they moved on to 3D modeling and preparing drawings for production. The steampunk exterior design features a PCB body with intricate brass, copper and plastic details reminiscent of classic speakers or prototype cars.

The creation of the Steamtronic PC took more than six months of testing. The team had a hard time finding companies willing to implement their ambitious plans, given time, money and production constraints. Decisions about details such as special brass screws or the right varnishes required in-depth study of chemical compositions. Experiments with varnishing textolite walls alone required converting an entire room in the apartment into a workshop and testing countless compositions until a suitable one was found.

Ilyinsky emphasizes that such complex personal assemblies require an understanding of how to implement ideas while responsibly taking into account the client’s budget. For Steamtronic, this resulted in a combination of the latest GeForce RTX 4090 graphics card with an older Intel Core i5 processor, based on customer needs and careful performance analysis.

Yolenzo's projects are inspired by his view of computer assembly as an art that metaphorically embodies the inner world of customers. Steamtronic's fusion of antiquated locomotive motifs and cutting-edge computing power reflects this philosophy.
