Ubisoft will not increase investment in VR – sales of Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR did not meet expectations

During Ubisoft’s quarterly conference call, company co-founder and CEO Yves Guillemot commented on the emergence of new players in the VR market, such as Meta * Quest 3 ** and Apple Vision Pro, and whether they have new plans for content support for VR platforms.

The head of Ubisoft said that at the moment the company is not going to invest too many resources in the VR segment . One of the reasons was the not very successful launch of Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR , sales of which, although considered good, were still below expectations .

“We’ve been very impressed with what Apple has come up with and think it’s a fantastic device, but we continue to look at the VR business as something to look at but not invest too much in until it becomes big enough.”

Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR released on Meta Quest ** in November 2023 and allows players to take on the role of three Assassins – Ezio, Cassandra and Connor. Prior to this, Ubsioft also planned to release Splinter Cell VR , which was developed at the Red Storm studio and was supposed to be a Quest exclusive ** , but in the end the game was canceled .
