Wait a long time: The second season of The Last of Us may not be released until 2025

The successful launch and high ratings of HBO‘s television adaptation of The Last of Us led to the expected announcement of a sequel to the show. Although the second season has already been confirmed, its premiere will not be as fast as fans would like.

In a recent interview with Collider, Pedro Pascal, who plays Joel, hinted that The Last of Us season 2 could start filming before the end of 2023.

“Yes, there is a chance. Yes,” – this is how Pascal commented on the possibility of filming The Last of Us: Season 2 this year.

However, series executive producer Craig Mazin recalled in the Washington Post that the first season took 200 days to film (approximately 18-19 days per episode or 2-3 script pages per day), and then a few more months of post-production took. It’s been a total of 18 months from day one of the cameras to the premiere on HBO Max, and if the creators continue to follow the same production pace/schedule, the earliest window for a second season could be early to mid-2025.

Earlier it became known that in The Last of Us: Season 2 only part of the events from the sequel for PlayStation 4 will be affected, and Bella Ramsay will continue to play the grown-up Ellie. According to Neil Druckmann, it will be possible to talk about a recast only if Ramsay herself refuses to shoot.
