Speaking without blaming any party for the attacks, Guterres said, “We support the IAEA’s ongoing work to stabilize the situation at the plant.”
Speaking at a ceremony to commemorate the victims of Hiroshima on Saturday, Guterres warned that a new arms race is gaining momentum, adding: “It is absolutely unacceptable for states with nuclear weapons to accept the possibility of nuclear war.”
Calling for a commitment to nuclear disarmament, Guterres said, “Get the nuclear war option off the table. It’s time to make peace prevail.”
Kyiv and Moscow continue to blame each other for the attacks in Zaporizhia, which fell under Russian control in the first days of the war.
