Jerry Bruckheimer: ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ spin-off with Margot Robbie not cancelled, but relegated to the background

In mid-November, Margot Robbie announced that the female spin-off ” Pirates of the Caribbean ” with her participation was canceled, but as it turned out, this was not entirely true.

In an interview with Collider, franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer revealed that they are working on two new Pirates movies at the same time: the Robbie movie and a completely separate story. The latter, according to Bruckheimer, is in a later stage of production, so for now, the film with the Suicide Squad star has been sidelined.

“I think at some point this script [with Margot Robbie] will see the light of day. We are developing two different stories for Pirates, and the second has moved further. We are working on it to try to translate it into a film,” Bruckheimer said.

Bruckheimer’s words confirm early rumors that Disney is trying to bring multiple Pirates of the Caribbean projects to life. According to The DisInsider, the studio has put a “Pirates of the Caribbean” thing on the drawing board for the Disney+ streaming service, but it’s still in the very early stages of development.

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is one of the most financially successful in history. All five films in the series have grossed over $4.5 billion worldwide. The latest – ” Dead Men Tell No Tales ” – earned over $794 million worldwide, becoming the dominant US release on Memorial Day weekend 2017.
